Ethics on the World of Pria
What are Ethics?
The path you choose in life is based on an internal conscience if you
will. This internal belief in good and evil has long troubled all of
us. Here we can choose something quite different from ourselves. Once
again be sure you understand the advantages and disadvantages of the
choice you make here.
The people of this world tend to follow one of three very distinct
ethical pathways.
The first is the path of the Righteous. These individuals are the ones
that fight for good and order. They will always choose what is right
even when it might cost them their wealth, or their very lives. These
are people we sometimes consider "do-gooders."
Their opposite are the Scourge, those that embrace evil and chaos and
spend their lives helping to increase both in the world. While they
do not have to go around killing others, they will always choose the
path that leads to greater chaos and the dimming of all that is
good on this world.
The last are the Free Agents. Those that walk the path of the
impartial one, willing to shift at a moment's notice if the cause or
the gold is good enough.
Be sure to check out all three of these before making your choice, as
each has its own advantages and disadvantages. Remember also the kind
of reception you would like in the inn. If you are looking for friends,
the evil Scrouge will find few unless prepared to pay for them.
Free Agent Characters Walking the Tight Rope Free Agents are the middle
ground. These are the characters that walk the tight rope between righteous
and scourge. They are neither good not evil. Instead they are a combination
of both as the times and situations determine. The free agent character
is the one who can go many different ways. They can have honor such as
honor among thieves. They can be bought, as in the Sheriff of Nottingham
who could be bribed. They can be coaxed or convinced that they should or
want to take a particular stand. Or they can also go on their own whims
or impulses. This ethic leaves you, as the character the most options.
The free agent can basically play both sides at the same time. However,
should you regularly play one side or the other your character may be forced
by the Game Master to become that ethic instead of staying a free agent.
A well played free agent will be able to explain away their actions whatever
they may be. All professions may be of the free agent ethic.
Righteous Characters Those characters that work for good and order are
considered righteous in the world of Pria. You might think of this type
of character as the Superman or Wonder Woman of this world. They are incorruptible
characters who will always choose to risk their lives to save that which
is good and noble. This in no way means that a righteous character cannot
gain weath, fame, or power. They simply must EARN it honestly. Also they
would tend to help those in need with their possessions or abilities. Never
asking for more then is reasonable in the situation. For example if a village
is in danger and the villagers are poor and unable to pay, the righteous
character will deal with the danger for nothing more than the villagers'
thanks. All professions may be of the righteous ethic but a thief would
be like a Robin Hood in this world. The thieving would be done not for
personal gain, but to benefit others.
Scourge Characters Evil Scourge of the World of Pria In all things there
are two sides to a coin, so the scourge is the other side, or opposite,
of righteous. These are the characters who do everything for power, glory,
wealth, and fame. They consider only themselves and their whim. This is
what makes the scourge so truly evil. They act on a whim or impulse without
anyconsideration of any one else. If a village must be destroyed for them
to gain wealth, so what. For them, the cost of a few measly character lives
is well worth it. A scourge will always walk the path of chaos, thoroughly
enjoying the panic and disorder of everyone around them. They also tend
to use and discard characters and items at will. Unlike the righteous they
will use any pretense, fakery, or fraud to get what they want. All professions
may be of the scourge ethic. In the case of the healing professions they
would also use their powers to cause harm and chaos not just healing.
