Lord Onyx
Lord Onyx, Lord of Darkness, Secrets, and Loss
When Satyr created the world of Pria he was well aware of the need
for balance in all things. He knew that you could never have only good
without evil. If you created such a place, the people would never
know what was truly good. They would become so use to the good that
everything else would be common place.
The concept of paradise would lose its meaning in such a world. So,
much to his own regret, Satyr was forced to create some evil in his
world.
By this time, humans, elves, and drawves were flourishing on Pria,
and so Satyr scoured the world in search of any seeds of evil. As
he searched the world he began to notice that the peoples of Pria had
a natural hatred for darkness. They would look forward to the
coming of the sun and light lanterns and candles and even fires to
chase away the coming of the night.
On this world there were three moons so that there was little time of
the year when it was truly dark. When those days came, the people of
Pria would stay indoors, locking them and their windows against the
dark and inside their homes would be gaily lit and plenty of good
music and food to chase away the fears.
Satyr also noticed that the only time it seemed that the people
willing sought out the darkness was when there was a secret to be
shared or to be hidden. The other time was when they had lost someone
close to them and only the cold embrace of dark seemed to
give them any comfort at all.
It was then he created the god, Onyx, an inhuman god, a vampyre
creature of the darkness. Onyx became the natural enemy of the light.
He loved the dark, and thrived on the secrets shared within it.
The grief and pain of loss became his food, and he willingly wrapped
any mournful souls in his cloak of darkness to drink deeply of their
sorrow.
At first the strongest of the Scrouge gods, Onyx led his army of
creatures against the Knights of the Blue Rose. It was he and his
soldiers that led to the creation of Lord Magnus, God of Chivalry. It
was a mistake that he has spent the long centuries since
trying to correct.
He and Lord Magnus will always be found on opposite sides of any
issue. Should they ever meet on the field of battle it is well known
that the balance would be forever changed as only one would leave that
field alive. For this reason, all the other gods and goddesses will
interfere to keep the two apart...forever.
